Now, more than ever, investors of every age, gender, and occupation are taking a much more active interest in their financial blueprint.  In light of all the financial turmoil created by the economic crisis of 2007 – 2009, investors have become less trusting of professional advisors and are taking more and more of their assets under direct responsibility.  Despite this fact, there are still great opportunities out there for financial services firms who understand the needs of investors who have taken greater control of their day-to-day financial activities.  Some of the high-level findings from the 2010 Spectrem Perspective, Opportunities for Advisory Firms with Self Directed Investors, include:

• Over 40% of the Mass Affluent who are Self-Directed indicate that they are Self-Directed because they can’t afford the services of a professional advisor.
• Usage of online capabilities between Self-Directed and other investor is similar except for use of online trading.
• Self-Directed investors actually enjoy investing but are still seeking research and information.
