Ultra High Net Worth 2011, Volume 2 - Use of Mobile Technology, Tablets, Online Tools and Social Media

The use of smartphones, tablets and social media is changing the landscape of advisor/client communications.  In most cases, investors are ahead of their financial services providers in using these new channels and tools.  They are seeking additional access and functionality and looking to their financial providers to provide competitive information and services.

The 2011 Use of Mobile Technology, Tablets, Online Tools and Social Media by the UHNW:  Volume 2 of the Ultra High Net Worth Wealth Segmentation Series 2011, was fielded online in the summer of 2011 with over 400 households with net worth not including primary residence of over $5 million.  Contained in this report is a significant amount of data regarding the usage of smartphones, computer tablets as well as traditional laptops and computers by these UHNW investors.  The information details the use of these devices for financial activities.  Additionally, the report highlights the usage of social media by these households, which is growing quickly.

Some of the key findings from the report include the following:

-Over half of the UHNW have accessed personal financial information from their smart phone while 56% have conducted some type of financial research

-Among table users, 71% use their tablet for investment research while 29% have used it for trading

-Fifteen percent of the UHNW current read blogs on the internet that pertain to financial topics but 30% would be interested in blogs from trusted advisors

-Almost two-thirds of the UHNW use Facebook.  More than a third are LinkedIn and a quarter use Twitter
